Must-See Flower Viewing Events in Miyagi Prefecture Summer 2022

Every Saturday during the month of June, the Izumi Botanical Garden will host the "Rose Fair" event. Come and enjoy the beautiful display of roses alongside a variety of fun activities, including workshops, magic shows, and much more!

Note: the event is subject to cancellation depending on the spread of COVID-19.

The flowery season is upon us once again! Enjoy viweing a large selection of fragrant roses, such as English Roses, Old Roses, French Roses, and many more, this year at the Rose & Herb Fair. Roses will be in full bloom around mid June, which is the best time to come and admire them!

English roses will be on sale from June 6th. If you're looking to get your hands on some of the more popular rose varieties, make sure to come early as they tend to sell out quckly!

Admire the beautiful hydrangeas in the Wild Herb Garden (Yasoen), with a special focus on Ezo Hydrangeas, along with the informative explanations of a guide.

On the evening of June 25th, the Hydrangea Park (芦ノ口緑地) will be illuminated with lanterns and musical performances will fill the park with life!

Mark the start of summer at Tagajo Castle’s Ayame-en Iris Park and stroll the fields of 3 million gorgeous iris flowers —of which there are over 800 varieties— in full bloom! Some of these varieties include hte Siberian iris, the rabbit-ear iris, and the Japanese iris. You can also enjoy the rich honey Japanese honeybees make from these flowers. From the 22nd to the 24th don't miss the incredibly mystical, fairy-like evening light up event from 7:00PM to 9:00PM!

Enjoy almost 4,200 beautifully blooming hydrangeas in the Funaoka Castle Site Park every year to mark the beginning of Summer! Along with the gorgeous purply-blue flowers in full bloom, many fun events and activities will be held, such as the Funaoka Castle Site Park History Walking event on June 25th and 26th (reservation is required, but free of charge), the music event "Hydrangea, Song and Musical Instruments" on June 25th and much more! Food stalls will also come by on Saturdays and Sundays during the festival period.

Come and discover the 200 hydrangea plants and the herb garden that add color to the plum orchard! This event is not only for herb enthusiasts, but also for those who want to learn more about herbs and their appeal too! Take a leisurely stroll along the paths of the plum orchard to admire hydrangeas in full bloom, and participate in the many events held to fully enjoy hydrangeas and herbs!

Every year Osaki City's 6 hectare Sunflower Hill fully blooms and gleams against the blue summer sky.

The Sunflower Festival takes place amidst the beautiful fields of yellow, where visitors can enjoy sunflower-themed sweets (sunflower ice cream, anyone?) as well as purchase local specialty products, including sunflower oil pressed directly from the sunflower seeds grown in these very fields.

Make sure to stop by and enjoy the sight of these beautiful symbols of summer!

During the summer, Lake Izunuma and Lake Uchinuma is transformed into a blanket of lilies and lotuses in full bloom that cover about 75% percent of the lake's surface, marking the start of the Lotus Festival! We highly recommend taking a relaxing 30 minute sight-seeing boat ride —operated by local fishermen— through the thousands of floating purple flowers that color the lake. Since the lotus flower typically blooms in the early morning and closes up in the afternoon, its best to come early to take in the spectacular sight of the flowers in full bloom!
