11 – 12 June Events Round-Up

Come and celebrate Miyagi and Sendai City's diverse LGBTQ+ community this weekend at the Miyagi Rainbow Parade! Considering how small Sendai is, the parade is actually a lot more impressive than one would expect. Don't miss out on this incredible opportunity to deepen your understanding and respect for gender diversity, as well as meet and interact with members of your local LGBTQ+ community in person.

Discover Yagiyama Minami Park by night thanks to a beautiful illumination of over 1000 LED lanterns. Share the fun with family and friends and enjoy the relaxing evening atmosphere of the beginning of summer!

This weekend, the Muikamachi-dori shopping district in Kurikoma will become entirely pedestrian! In More than 40 stores from inside and outside of Miyagi prefecture will gather for people of all ages to enjoy. Don't miss the Nishimonai Bon Dance Performance from Akita Prefecture at 7:00pm!

The "Sendai Akiu Soba Festival," which has been canceled for the last 2 years due to COVID-19, will make its grand return on June 11th and 12th at the Akiu Civic Center. The highlight of the event is undoubtedly the handmade soba noodles, prepared using native Akiu soba flour. These will be served on both days for just 500 yen per meal!

At Hama de Marché, an incredibly large variety of handicrafts, both traditional and modern, are available for purchase, including items such as woodworks, accessories, handicrafts, candles, homemade cookies and antique wares!

In celebration of the season of firefly watching, a special exhibition "Forest of Fireflies" will be held at Sendai Uminomori Aquarium. Admire the soft light of 20-30 of these nocturnal beetles through the peephole of an aquarium with dimmed light.
